Did You Know?

Here’s a funky remix of the old ‘Shift Happens’ clip – with updated stats on tech and info. Enjoy!

Coffee Break: Skype for the iPhone

skype_on_iphone1Skype in the palm of my hand – perfect. I’m so jazzed about this. Free Skype-to-Skype calls and handheld instant messages from any Wi-Fi zone…somebody pinch me, please. I remember trying to do something like this through the web browser on my old Treo once when I was waiting for a bus. It was an expensive – and unsuccessful – experiment.

My amazing virtual assistant told me the other day she doesn’t have SMS on her phone. What?!

She has every application known to modern man on her computer, but I can’t send her a message when I’m not at my desk? I just didn’t get it. I’ve always thought she lived on Planet Earth where we ALL have SMS…but then again, we’ve never actually met. She says she’s somewhere in Canada, eh.

I realised our entire working relationship for the past 18 months has been through Skype, so I only bug her when I’m sitting at my computer. Now she can run, but she can’t hide…

Coffee Break: Grandpa’s Productivity Formula

My husband's grandfather really had this whole personal productivity thing worked out decades ago.

No matter what the issue, he would offer the same tried-and-tested words of wisdom:

"First ya gotta make yer plan…then ya gotta work yer plan…"

Of course he's right.

Coffee Break: A Simple Reminder System

Today my 7-year old has a suggestion for anybody whose reminder system is not quite up to speed.

Simply post a small sign near your workstation like this one: Remembertoremember

It says, "Remember to Remember."

Why didn’t I think of that?

Coffee Break: Skype WeeMee

You know what they say about ‘All work and no play,’ right?

OK, so for the sake of being not-dull I’ve created a new category on this oh-so-serious blog called Coffee Break (Just For Fun)!

I needed an excuse to tell you that if you haven’t created your WeeMee on Skype, ya just gotta do it. Talk about a totally entertaining and mindless diversion!

Here’s how: Open Skype and choose File > Personalise > Change Your Picture > Build your free WeeMee.

Highly recommended. Here’s mine:

Pinstriped trousers and a purple jacket: Yeah, Baby! Well, it’s not exactly Austin Powers, but I do use Skype for business calls so decided to ditch the sequined boho top I picked first. I wouldn’t want people thinking I don’t know how to dress for success – ahem. I had accessorised with a PDA in my wee little hand at one point. It might make a comeback.

I was kind of wishing for WeeWeeMees in the ‘Interests’ area so I could put my kids in there too. Maybe that will come with the next Skype upgrade…

…Now, could somebody please tell me to get back to work?!
